Like a leaf on the wind

Another note on driving in Morocco.

Yesterday we drove around Casablanca unencumbered by our saddlebags. Being lighter and narrower, we were willing and better able to drive like locals. We were lane filtering, aiming for and squeezing through gaps, passing, traffic-circling, u-turning, horn honking and generally fitting in like the locals with ever-improving skill. Throwing a tall 500+ lb motorcycle around isn’t easy, but we’re getting better at it! How I wish I had a helmet cam to show you what I mean. It was pure pleasure to be able to use second gear, and Angela even remarked once, “third gear, how I’ve missed you!”.

Today, as we took the back roads from Casablanca to Marrakesh, we also had to dodge a herd of sheep being, well, herded along the road. Oh, for a helmet cam!

Of course, all of the accomplishments I’m bragging about pale in comparison to what we’ve witnessed the locals do with their scooters. It’s like watching smoke pass through a screen to see these guys buzz like gnats through dense traffic!
