Algeciras
Ah, Algeciras! We finally found you! Three gas stops, the outer edges of 2 rain showers and a chilly 8 hours/500 km later and we made it!It was 14°C when we left this morning, with the threat of some rain, so we departed with rain gear in place. By the time we stopped for lunch, it was 23°C and we were sweltering. So, off came the rain gear. And down went the temperature. By the time we arrived, it was 18°C, which isn’t bad until you’re travelling 120 km/h wearing mesh gear. The wind cuts right through. But, as we were so close we sucked it up, encouraged one another via our helmet comm system, and suffered through the last leg to our AirBnB.
With having only seen about 60 seconds of rain in two sessions, the front of the bikes, and helmet visors, are like insect slaugherhouses. It will take some scrubbing to clean all the splats and bug guts off!
We managed to find a place that just opened for supper at 8:30 pm, early by the custom in southern Spain, and have a wonderful view of the Rock of Gibraltar. To eat, and then to sleep.
Below are two pictures from a highway rest stop where they sell olive oil and olives in the largest containers for retail sale I’ve ever seen. And oh wow, is the olive oil ever good here!
