Shortcut to Canada and a big boat
Today, as we travelled from Princeton, WV to Louisville, KY we saw a few funny signs. We thought we had even found a shortcut to Canada, but no such luck.
Our first stop was in Matewan, WV which is known for being the epicenter of the 30+ yr Hatfield – McCoy feud. It’s also known for the site of the Matewan Massacre. In May 1920 during ongoing disputes between miners and the mining company, 10 people were killed. However you may feel about unions in the 21st century, the history of abuse that miners suffered at the hands of their employers in the 19th and early 20th century demanded to be addressed. The small museum in Matewan did a great job of telling the story, and Shaun at the museum helped fill in some additional details. Thanks to @sammanicom.author for mentioning the town and its history on @adventureriderradio.
Crossing into KY, we stopped in at the Ark Encounter to see a life-sized model (500+ ft!) of Noah’s Ark. The model came with details bringing to life the creator’s vision of the story of Noah’s Ark. It was interesting to observe how the site clearly separated out where they took artistic license, and how it worked to incorporate nods to science. Whether you believe the story or not, we think they did a great job in their presentation of representing the details as written in the Bible, and of providing opportunities for discussion.
