Beating the heat with science

It was 93°F today, with a “feels like” of about 102°F.  But Michael didn’t notice, because of this new shirt he just bought.

Michael is constantly doing research and trialing new gear and items, and he’s not one to brag about a product generally. When he first read about this shirt he was quite skeptical, and he only bought it because of so many positive reviews.

He bought the black long sleeve 1/4 zip mock turtleneck, which you’d think is pure insanity to wear when it’s as hot as the surface of the sun outside.  Nevertheless, he soaked it in water, wrung it out and slid it on, then went out to do some yard work.

Normally, after an hour of lawn mowing and weed whacking in these temps he would consume a liter of water and need a shower.  Today, he finished up without shedding a drop of sweat.  He felt so comfortable that after he came inside he actually took the shirt off, put on a regular t-shirt, and went back outside just to see the difference.  He couldn’t believe how hot and humid it actually was, and how much of a difference this shirt made!  The skullcap with neck gator is made of the same material, and added to Michael’s comfort at the hottest part of the day.

The double layer of material works by the process of evaporative cooling, and while the outer layer is wet, the inner layer is supposed to remain dry (it seemed a little damp, but he didn’t wring it out completely).

Science! He is sold on this product, and it will come with us on our trip.

LDComfort.com is the website for the product.
